Our speaker was William J.  Middlecamp, speaking on Climate Realities and Solutions. Bill is a trained climate reality leader & EnROADS Ambassador, and he gave a fascinating presentation.

Seniors have a positive impact on the political and legislative process, and we work to continue the impressive blue wave movement all across our state in election years.

Lobby Day on the Hill

MN Capitol Hill, that is!

On Friday, March 22, 2024, DFL seniors will again gather in the beautiful conference room 316 on the third floor of the MN Capitol building to meet with various legislators or their representatives and enjoy each others’ company.

8:30 — Enjoy coffee, rolls, and conversation

9:00 — Program starts

10:00 — Representative Mike Freiberg, 43B

11:30 — Representative Sandra Feist, 39B

Parking issues: The familiar parking lots are under construction and inaccessible. We encourage everyone to park in the lot next to the AFL-CIO building. We will have the DFL bus to ferry people to and from this lot.

  • Public lot near the AFL-CIO building, 175 Aurora Ave, St Paul. Obtain a parking ticket from the machine on the east end of the street to put on your dashboard. Then wait for the DFL bus or take a nice walk over to the Capitol.
  • Handicapped parking is available under the Senate office building as usual.
  • The parking lot at the closed Sears building is not for general use. You run the risk of being towed or ticketed.

Two wheelchairs have been reserved for folks with mobility issues. They will be available at the Historical Society on the first floor of the Capitol with escorts as needed.

Book Club

Senior Caucus members meet on Zoom once a month for a lively discussion of a politically or socially oriented book and the issues raised. Check the flyer for the current book title and Zoom link, or check our historical list to get caught up on titles you missed.

Summer Social and Fall Gala

Get to know other like-minded seniors at our annual social events–picnic and gala. Besides social time, both events feature elected officials, candidates for office, and other political leaders, depending on the election cycle.

The picnic is held at a park pavilion in late summer. The Senior Caucus provides burgers and “dogs” and fixin’s, and everyone is asked to bring a potluck dish to share. Note: The summer gathering was not held in 2023 due to unpredictable wildfire smoke from Canada.

The gala is held at a catered venue in late fall for a minimal charge. The Senior Caucus provides the program, including entertainment. Click here for the flyer and registration link for the October 29, 2023, gala.

PRESENTATIONS

Senior Caucus interviewed US Representative Dean Phillips, CD3, in August 2020. View the interview here.

Senator Al Franken was the keynote speaker at our annual meeting on Saturday, September 11, 2021, sharing his in-depth knowledge of issues and strategy and reminding us of his special sense of humor. Watch the video here.

The South Metro chapter hosted MN State Senator Mary Kunesh (SD41) in July 2021 for a presentation and discussion of issues affecting Native Americans in Minnesota. View the presentation here.
