The Senior Caucus hosts a book group monthly on the third Monday at 11:00a, using Zoom technology. Everyone is invited to join the discussion.

The next meeting is September 15, when we will discuss Autocracy, Inc.: the Dictators Who Want to Run the World by Anne Applebaum.

More than an autocratic leader who controls the police who threaten the people, modern society is controlled by sophisticated networks—financial structures, surveillance technologies, professional propagandists—all controlled by regimes and companies across borders. Condemnation, sanctions, and protests do little to disrupt this desire for power, wealth, and impunity. Applebaum calls for a reorientation of policies to counter the threats.

We focus on books of a political, historical, or scientific nature that pertain to understanding our current political climate. The authors are recognized experts in their fields (politics, journalism, history, science). Occasionally we read a book of fiction.
