DFL  PARTY PLATFORM CATEGORY CHANGE!!

The Senior Caucus has been working for the last year to amend the DFL platform categories to include a category called Aging with Dignity. At the DFL State Convention, the delegates and alternates voted overwhelmingly to accept this new category.

Hubert Humphrey said this: “The moral test of a government is how it treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those who are in the shadow of life — the sick, the needy, and the handicapped.”
More than one million Minnesotans are now over the age of 65. Twenty percent of this nation will soon be seniors. These are not statistics.
Younger people need to hear this message because a society that refuses to care for its elders will not suddenly find the will to care for its young.
This DFL platform change was inspired by caucus members, expanding out of a statewide survey that was conducted last year, to seek input from seniors across the state.  This new platform category “Aging with Dignity” will encourage seniors to continue engaging and sharing their ideas, concerns, and aspirations.
Thank you to all those Senior Caucus members who worked on this.  Thank you to all the state convention delegates and alternates who voted for the new party platform.  Thank you to all of those who actively helped to get the resolutions and platform changes adopted, including precinct participants, collaborators, legislators, party leaders at all levels, and of course Senior Caucus members themselves.  This is the power of organizing!
Thank you.
